Who we are.....
Peter Hedge
Peter is subject leader for Drama at Samuel Ward and has been an AST for the last five years.
He is particularly interested in the use of new technologies to improve teaching and learning and works closely with the County Drama advisor in doing so.
His work also involves improving outcomes for boys, the use of thinking skills, the introduction of the Creative and Media Diploma, line managing the AST team and supporting whole school improvement.
Maria Osowiecki
Maria is subject leader for History at Samuel Ward and has only very recently become an AST. She has published articles on the impact of teaching and learning styles upon pupil engagement and learning and she has also worked with NAGTY on identifying what constitutes high-level learning and conceptual understanding in History for the gifted and talented.
Olivia Rudkin
Olivia is very involved in ITT. She has mentored several students each year for the past 6 years and is a GTP Cluster Mentor.
Olivia has a keen interest in Parental Involvement as a means of raising pupil attainment and has run a number of parents groups and outreach events. These have focussed on breaking down barriers between school and parents and providing insights into teaching styles and approaches. Olivia has worked with other AST’s to deliver Thinking Skills sessions to staff . She has recently been working on pupil’s perceptions of group work . This year Olivia will be focussing on G&T students and looking at strategies to raise the number of A and A* grades.
Tom Hales
Tom studied Mathematics and Education at Homerton College, Cambridge between 1999 and 2004.
He taught for 4 years at Chalkstone Middle School, in Haverhill, working as Initial Teacher Training Coordinator (2005-2007) and Head of Mathematics (2007-2008). During this period of time, he also lead INSET sessions on behalf of the Faculty of Education in Cambridge and Suffolk County Council.
In 2008, he was appointed as a Mathematics AST at Samuel Ward Arts and Technology College. Over the past year, in addition to his role as a practitioner, he has supported mathematics teaching in 3 Suffolk schools and lead an initiative on raising boys’ achievement.
His current interests include developing strategies for boosting pupils’ academic performance and devising creative approaches to teaching GCSE mathematics.
Teresa Carter
Teresa is subject leader for both Health & Social Care and CACHE,she is also the internal verifier for all Btec courses. She passed her AST asseement in October 2008.
As part of her outreach work, Teresa is currently establishing Vocational Network Groups across the county. She also supports any school currently offering or thinking of offering new vocational courses.
Within school Teresa is working with other AST's and staff to enhance Gifted and Talented provision.
